Good Morning Britain presenter Adil Ray has opened up about his relationship with his new TV wife Kate Garraway as he admitted the pair have bonded over their grief.
Adil, who first joined the ITV breakfast show in 2019, has become a more regular panelist since Piers Morgan left in 2021 and Ben Shephard’s departure more recently.
And now that he and Kate are co-hosting together more often, the presenter spoke candidly about how the pair have bonded by helping each other through difficult times.
It has been an extremely difficult year for Kate after her husband Derek Draper died in January almost four years after he was struck down by Covid and suffered one of the worst affected cases of the virus in the UK.
Meanwhile Kate has been off air for the past fortnight after her father Gordon suffered a suspected stroke and heart attack last month.

His mother’s symptoms were spotted late as she they were disguised by her Parkinson’s disease which she also suffered from.
Opening up about his grief Adil told The Mirror: ‘When my mum died, I was working with Kate at the time. She was so supportive.
‘[But] One of the benefits of doing more shows together is you get to know more because you see her on a regular basis. You realise how much she’s got going on.
‘It’s just incredible. She’s a mother and a father at the moment. It’s not easy. And she’s grieving, we share a lot in that.’
Adil joked that he was delighted when Ben made the move to This Morning so that he could spend more time on GMB working with Kate.
Nargis was 73 when she passed away from the cancer, nine years after she was diagnosed with Parkinson’s.
Adil explained that due to her Parkinson’s symptoms doctors weren’t sure what was wrong with her, but further tests revealed she had stage four pancreatic cancer.

It has been a difficult year for Kate after her husband Derek Draper died in January almost four years after he was struck down by Covid which attacked all his organs
She was given six months to live, but sadly passed away after three.
The actor, who rose to fame on comedy series Citizen Khan which he both wrote and starred in, was extremely close to his mum and took her to Buckingham Palace when he received his OBE for services to broadcasting from Prince William in the 2016 Birthday Honours.
Kate is said to have rushed out of work minutes after the ITV show wrapped last month upon being told her father had collapsed.
A source told The Sun: ‘Very sadly, Kate’s father collapsed earlier this week while staying, along with her mum and her brother in Cornwall.
‘It was incredibly frightening as he was found unconscious and immediately taken to hospital. It seems likely that he’s had a stroke and possibly a heart attack as well – doctors are still doing tests.
‘He remains in hospital and is currently stable but, understandably, it’s given the whole family a terrible scare and they are praying he can recover.’
The insider added Kate was due to be off air for a few weeks anyway so can divide her time between the hospital and caring for her children Darcey and Billy.

Former Labour insider and psychotherapist Derek married Kate in 2005 and they went on to welcome children Darcey, 17, and Billy, 14.
In 2021, just over a year after contracting Covid, he was able to leave hospital and return to his family home in north London, with round-the-clock care.
In August 2022 he was taken to hospital with sepsis but pulled through. Then in early December 2023, Derek had a heart attack and was taken to hospital again.
Tragically, he wasn’t able to overcome the latest medical emergency and on January 5, Kate confirmed that Derek died.
In a post on social media, she said her husband died surrounded by family and that she was ‘holding his hand throughout the last long hours’.
She said his Covid infection had left him with lasting damage to his heart which had led to ‘further complications’.
Kate also thanked the medical teams for making his final moments as ‘comfortable and dignified as possible.’
