The 2024 Venice Film Festival saw a confrontation between Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, with tensions from their eight-year divorce battle reaching a peak.

Brad Pitt’s ‘Wolfs’ and Angelina Jolie’s ‘Maria’ will premiere at the Venice Film Festival, which runs Aug. 28 to Sept. 7.

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie will both showcase new movies at the 2024 Venice Film Festival.

The 81st annual Venice International Film Festival, which kicks off Aug. 28 and ends Sept. 7 in Italy, revealed its star-studded lineup of new movies on Tuesday.

Among the titles announced were Pitt’s Wolfs and Jolie’s Maria.

Pitt, 60, reunites with George Clooney, 63, for Wolfs, sharing the big screen for the first time in more than 15 years.

The duo has not starred in a movie together since 2008’s Burn After Reading. Wolfs, which will show at the festival out of competition, follows lone-wolf fixers who got assigned to the same job. The action-thriller is directed by Jon Watts (Spider-Man: Homecoming) and also stars Amy Ryan, Austin Abrams and Richard Kind.

Jolie, 49, portrays real-life legendary opera singer Maria Callas in Maria. The drama, which is part of the in-competition lineup, is by Pablo Larraín (Jackie, Spencer). The cast also includes Kodi Smit-McPhee, Pierfrancesco Favino, Alba Rohrwacher and Haluk Bilginer.

Other highly anticipated films premiering include Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga’s Joker: Folie à Deux, Michael Keaton and Jenna Ortega’s Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, and Nicole Kidman’s Babygirl.

Back in 2004, Jolie attended the Venice Film Festival for her animated movie Shark Tale, in which she voiced Lola. At the time, she brought son Maddox, then 3 years old, to the world premiere.

In 2007, she also joined Pitt on the red carpet at the festival in support of his film The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford, in which Pitt portrayed Jesse James. He’s been to the event a few other times, for Burn After Reading, Blonde and Ad Astra.

Pitt and Jolie shared the screen in 2005’s Mr. and Mrs. Smith and 2015’s By the Sea. In 2016, Jolie filed for divorce from Pitt after two years of marriage. The two were declared legally single in 2019. Since then, it’s been anything but conscious uncoupling between the two due to an intense custody battle and a long, protracted fight over the sale of their French vineyard, their demands over NDAs and new allegations of abuse and manipulation.

The actors share six kids — 22-year-old Maddox, 20-year-old Pax, 19-year-old Zahara, 18-year-old Shiloh and 16-year-old twins Knox and Vivienne.

The 2023 Venice Film Festival took place during the SAG-AFTRA strike, which prevented many stars from coming out to support their movies. With the strike now resolved, we can expect many more A-listers with projects at the festival to attend.

After premiering at the Venice Film Festival, Wolfs hits theaters on Sept. 20. Maria’s theatrical release date has not been announced.

The Venice Film Festival is always a highly anticipated event in the film industry, and this year is no exception. Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie are set to showcase their latest movies, ‘Wolfs’ and ‘Maria’, respectively, at the prestigious festival. ‘Wolfs’ sees Pitt teaming up with George Clooney for the first time in over 15 years. Directed by Jon Watts, the action-thriller follows lone-wolf fixers who are assigned to the same job. Amy Ryan, Austin Abrams, and Richard Kind also star in the film. On the other hand, Jolie takes on the role of legendary opera singer Maria Callas in ‘Maria’, directed by Pablo Larraín. The drama is part of the in-competition lineup and features a talented cast including Kodi Smit-McPhee, Pierfrancesco Favino, Alba Rohrwacher, and Haluk Bilginer. In addition to these films, audiences can look forward to other highly anticipated premieres at the festival, such as Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga’s ‘Joker: Folie à Deux’, Michael Keaton and Jenna Ortega’s ‘Beetlejuice Beetlejuice’, and Nicole Kidman’s ‘Babygirl’. While Pitt and Jolie have had a tumultuous relationship since their divorce in 2016, they continue to captivate audiences with their on-screen chemistry. Despite their personal struggles, both actors remain dedicated to their craft and continue to deliver powerful performances on screen. As the Venice Film Festival approaches, film enthusiasts from around the world eagerly await the opportunity to experience these cinematic masterpieces.
