With a heavy heart, Eamonn Holmes admits he anticipated his split from Ruth Langsford a year prior to the announcement, owing to a specific detail.

Eamonn Holmes opened up on the secret ingredient that he believes kept his marriage to Ruth Langsford intact, in an interview from one year before their unexpected separation.

The television favorites, who were co-hosts on ITV’s *This Morning* from 2006 to 2021, revealed in May that they would divorce after 14 years of marriage.

In a February 2023 *How To Be 60* podcast, 64-year-old Eamonn discussed how humor was key in his relationship with Ruth.

When asked if laughter was constant in their relationship, the GB News presenter replied, “Oh, I’d have to laugh a lot married to her. She always said, ‘If you didn’t make me laugh so much, we’d be divorced.’”

He added, “We have a strong bond. Ruth has a great sense of humor, and we laugh a lot. She handles jokes very well.”

Discussing his outlook for the coming decade, the TV personality expressed a desire for financial stability, retirement, and knowing when it’s “time to get off the stage,” reports the *Express*. 

He also mentioned he wouldn’t mind hosting a show about train journeys across Canada.

In May 2023, a spokesperson confirmed the news that the pair had called time on their relationship after 14 years of marriage. “Ruth Langsford and Eamonn Holmes have confirmed their marriage is over and they are in the process of divorcing,” they said.

On Monday, 22 July, 64 year old Ruth made her return to daytime chat show Loose Women for the first time since the news was announced where she hosted the show alongside Brenda Edwards, Coleen Nolan and Janet Street Porter.

As the show began, Coleen paused proceedings in order to share her joy at Ruth being back on the panel, leading the live audience to give a cheer. Turning to Ruth following her two-month break, she said: “Wait, wait, wait, before you carry on can I just say, I’m so, so happy that you’re back.”

Janet replied “Thank god!” while Ruth commented that “I won’t do it again,” and added it was “very nice to be back with you all,” as she looked thrilled to be there.
